In the last 25 years better understanding of the pathogenesis of glomerular disease enabled to switch from the morphologic (histopathology patterns) to the etiopathogenetic diagnosis. Based on the new biomarkers some glomerular diseases may be diagnosed non-invasively and monitoring of the activity of the disease became feasible. Moreover, we are in the period of the switch from non-specific immunosuppression to the treatment targeting specific pathogenetic processes.
