Prof. Jiří KŘEČEK, M.D., D.Sc.

Prof. MUDr. Jiří Křeček, DrSc. studied the developmental physiology, in particular he focused on critical developmental periods. He found that many functions in the organism must develop in a certain period of development, or else changes in development or its disruption occur. Prof. Jiří Křeček and his collaborators (e.g. Hahn, Illnerová, Koldovský) contributed to the elaboration of the critical developmental periods theory. Křeček's works on the consequences of premature weaning for the further development of the individual have become the classics. At that time, his department also developed pilot studies on the ontogeny of blood pressure and the factors that influence it during development (Albrecht, Jelínek). He was an important representative of the post-war Czech developmental medicine founded by Edward Babák.
