RNDr. Tomáš Soukup CSc.


Tomáš Soukup was an important and long-term employee of the Institute of Physiology, where he worked as the head and as a member of the Department of Functional Morphology. During his professional career he was mainly devoted to muscle receptors and muscle myosins research. On these topics he published a number of papers in prestigious international journals, was a principal investigator of Czech and international grants, supervised students and organized several international symposia. In recent years, he was also one of the main organizers of the International Biology Olympics, where he helped high school students delve into the secrets of studying biological sciences; under his leadership the Czech teams have achieved a number of international successes. His willingness to share his extensive experience and knowledge in microscopic, electron-microscopic and immuno-histological techniques became a great asset for the Institute as well as for all the students.
