Lecture "Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (nHIE): experimental point of view"

Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic (HI) asphyxia belongs to the most serious conditions of newborns with the incidence of 1-2 per 1000 of term births and mortality rate reaching 20-30%. It often results in HI encephalopathy (HIE) with severe neurological sequels such as cerebral palsy, seizures, epilepsy, etc. The present talk will describe several animal models of neonatal HIE (nHIE) and cover basic molecular and cellular mechanisms of nHIE studied in newborn rats using up-to-date imaging techniques, particularly magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging (MRS, MRI), and mass spectrometry imaging (MSI).
