(1) Clubfoot story
Idiopathic talipes equinovarus (clubfoot) is an isolated congenital musculoskeletal defect of a lower limb, with a prevalence of 1–2 cases per 1,000 births. Its etiology is probably multifactorial. Our group has published the first proteomic study of clubfoot and demonstrated increased angiogenesis and hypoxia in this pathological tissue. Several antifibrotics have been successfully applied to the 2D culture of clubfoot fibroblasts. Our group tries to create a 3D model of this disease from decellularized pathological tissue.

Adam Eckhardt is a Principal Investigator at the Institute of Physiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. He is the PI of the grant NU22-10-00072 at the Laboratory of Translational Metabolism.

(2) Metabolomics and lipidomics atlases
Current metabolomics and lipidomics studies are limited in the number of examined matrices, the breadth and scope of methods, reporting the number of metabolites, and data sharing. This lecture will discuss the concept of metabolomics and lipidomics atlases that characterize the quantitative distribution and relationships of metabolites in biological matrices and serve as a resource for future studies.

Tomas Cajka is a Principal Investigator at the Institute of Physiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. He has been the PI of the Laboratory of Translational Metabolism since 2018. His current research activities include developing novel metabolomics and lipidomics methods using cutting-edge LC-MS technologies, expanding the coverage of spectral libraries, and identifying unknowns by using in-silico fragmentation software and applying these tools in biomedical research to improve human health.
